The Coalition - Setting the Highest Standards in Hair Restoration

Tuesday, May 9, 2006

The skill, technique and talent of hair restoration physicians vary widely, as do the end results. Only a minority of leading hair transplant physicians provide truly state of the art hair transplantation. Members of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians are setting the industry standard extremely high by providing their patients with a highly refined and difficult to perform state of the art procedure called “Ultra Refined Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation”. Learn more about the technical and ethical standards for membership in the Coalition and how members are held accountable for these standards.

Dr. Shapiro wins the "Golden Follicle" Award

Tuesday, August 30, 2005

Dr. Ron Shapiro has won the "Golden Follicle" award this past weekend at the ISHRS meeting in Sydney, Australia. Ron has always been my "Gold Standard" for a hair restoration physician. And apparently his colleagues feel much the same way. I understand that he was given a standing ovation by his colleagues. But I know that if his patients had also been in that room the applause would have been deafening.

Patient input regarding top notch surgeons is requested.

Wednesday, August 24, 2005

As the publisher of the Hair Transplant Network, I often visit hair transplant clinics to watch the staff perform surgery prior to recommending them on our community. I know it's the walk not the talk that interests potential patients. And nothing beats visiting a hair transplant clinic and seeing the physician and staff in action to verify that they are walking the talk. I'm currently visiting hair restoration clinics in the mid Atlantic, North East and Midwest area of the US over the next few weeks. I would appreciate your suggestions for hair transplant clinics that you think I should visit.

Are bigger hair transplant sessions really better?

Tuesday, March 15, 2005

We have all seen the headline grabbing posts and eye popping photos for the huge single session hair transplants of 3,500 to 5,000 grafts. All things equal - who would not want to get faster and more dramatic hair transplant results sooner? Well, if all things were truly equal I would absolutely agree.

But like many things that sound almost too good to be true there is often a catch. While I believe that the creation of smaller and less invasive incisions that enable dense packing (when appropriate) are important advances, I am concerned about the potential dangers of huge hair transplant sessions that are being promoted agressively online.

One week tour of south Florida hair transplant clinics

Saturday, August 6, 2005

South Florida may just be the vanity capitol of the world, beyond even Southern California or Brazil. In South Florida people don't ask why a person had a cosmetic procedure but why they haven't.

So it is no surprise that South Florida has more hair restoration physicians per capita than any other place in North America. But only a minority of these hair restoration surgeons are providing truly state of the art results.

Regulating the hair transplant profession/industry

Friday, August 12, 2005

Currently, as some hair transplant patients are painfully aware, there are no legal or organizational laws regulating the quality of hair restoration surgery. Essentially the "buyer beware" laws of the "free market" are the only real laws in place.

Thus a physician can literally set up a hair transplant practice over night and begin doing surgery the next day without having done any real training, let alone a fellowship.

But the emergence of the Internet has empowered patients to not only to learn about hair restoration but to share their actual experiences. Thus a physician who provides sub pare services one day may be reading a tough critique of his or her services the next day on our hair restoration discussion forum.

How to choose a great hair transplant physician

Tuesday, June 28, 2005

The most important decision in restoring your hair is the hair restoration physician you choose. The skill, experience, and talent of hair restoration physicians vary widely, as do the end results.

It is important that you research and choose your physician wisely. After all, who you choose will determine how natural and full your new hair will be for the rest of your life.

The Coalition - A New Era of Patient/Physician Collaboration

Wednesday, March 2, 2005

As a hair transplant patient I know how life changing surgery can be. And as the publisher of this hair restoration community I know that hair transplant surgery can either give a patient a new lease on life or shatter their confidence and appearance for a life time.

Seven years ago I began my first of three hair transplant surgeries. At that time I was extremely lucky to have selected one of the few surgeons who at that time was successfully doing large sessions of follicular unit grafts. Dr. Ron Shapiro was exceptionally gifted and dedicated to his patients and I achieved outstanding results that dramatically changed my life for the better.
