Question:

There seems to be a lot of information on the recipient area regarding styling, dying or applying products. I had FUE 5 days ago and everything is healing well. I want to dye the hair in the donor area after 10 days when I go back to work as this area has a lot of gray hair and does not match the top of my head. I will leave the top of my head alone for a few weeks but can I dye the hair in the donor area 10 days post-op?

Answer:

The main concern in applying hair dye to the donor area after a hair transplant is irritation. With follicular unit extraction (FUE), it is reasonable to expect that the extraction sites should be well healed at 10 days post-op. However, everyone heals differently and at differing rates.

I recommend consulting with your hair restoration physician before applying color to your donor area. You may also want to consider using a dye for sensitive skin. These can often be found where natural products are sold.
