Question:
I am 4 days post-op from my 2nd strip hair transplant surgery of 1684 grafts. Last year, I had 1620 grafts by the same doctor. This time, I was asked to purchase Graftcyte post-surgical kit. It's very expensive, almost $300. What are the benefits of Graftcyte and why was it not recommended after my first procedure?
Answer:
Graftcyte is rich in copper peptides and may help as a healing agent the first few weeks after a hair transplant. However, it is not required for proper healing nor will it have any effect on transplanted hair growth, positive or negative. If you'd rather save yourself the expense, contact your doctor and share your concerns. We've spoken to hundreds of hair transplant patients over the years that have never used Graftcyte and they've healed and their hair grew just fine without it.
It's quite possible that your clinic has become affiliated with Graftcyte and is trying to make some extra money by selling it. It's a viable product however, since it's not required to facilitate healing or hair growth, it should be considered an option rather than mandatory.
