This 37 year old was a class 2. After establishing his medical history and understanding the progression of his hair loss, I diagnosed his condition as Androgenetic Alopecia (male pattern baldness), ruling out any other possible dermatological or medical conditions which can cause hair loss. This patient still had a lot of hair, but was uncomfortable with the present state of his hairline, which was starting to recede and thin in the frontal 1/3 of his scalp. He wanted to be proactive and augment the hairline to add some density just in case he continued to thin. I explained to him that we need to take his age, present degree of hair loss and possible further hair loss into consideration. Given those factors, it would be best to keep some temple recession so that he will look good at 37 and also look good as he ages. I explained that there was a possibility that he could lose more of his own hair. If that was to happen, the transplanted hair would be able to stand alone and still look natural, but he would need another procedure to bring it back to the way it looks now.
He had a total of 2,164 grafts. The break down was as follows: 1,048 single hair, 998 two hair grafts and 118 three hair grafts. I used a significant amount of single hair follicular units which allowed me to create a very natural hairline. This action will allow him to comb his hair without anyone detecting that he has had anything done. These are his results 15 months post-op. This patient is extremely happy with his results.
