Procedure detail
Male patient in his 50s presenting with crown thinning consistent with androgenetic alopecia. Hair loss within the crown was stable, with clearly defined margins of strong native hair surrounding the affected area. The thinning was localised and not actively spreading, making the crown an isolated treatment zone.
Given the patient’s age, stability of hair loss and well-defined borders, surgical intervention to the crown was considered appropriate.
Procedure performed: FUE hair transplant
Surgeon: Dr Vara
Total grafts transplanted: 1,953 follicular units
Graft breakdown:
• Single-hair follicular units: 210
• Double-hair follicular units: 1,054
• Triple-hair follicular units: 689
Grafts were placed within the crown to restore density and recreate a natural whorl pattern, with attention to directional control and balanced distribution to optimise cosmetic coverage.
Treatment objective:
Restoration of localised crown thinning with natural whorl recreation in the context of stable, isolated hair loss.
Medical therapy:
Patient is not currently on medical therapy.
Bald class
Norwood stage 3 Vertex
In terms of the receding hairline, stage 3 vertex balding is a less drastic version of stage 3.
However, people experiencing stage 3 vertex balding will also begin losing hair on the crown of their head. This often starts as one small bald spot.
