Procedure detail
This patient had previously undergone a hair transplant with poor outgrowth. There had been taken out a couple of thousands of grafts previously that had been scattered over the areas that look thin on the consultation/preop photos. The donorarea was scared and we had to harvest the grafts very slowly at a rate of 600 grafts an hour to reduce the transection rate as much as possible in a tricky fibrotic donorarea environment. I had the patient start on oral medications(finasteride and minoksidil) 5 months prior to his surgery.
Equipment used: WAW FUE system with total of one new 0.85 . Metal 45 degree angled blade size 1.2 for the bulk part and metal 45 degree angled blades size 1.0 and 0.8 for the last 1 cm of the hairline/feathered zone.
Hair/graft ratio breakdown
1 Hair grafts - 269
2 Hair grafts - 780 -> 1560 hairs
3 Hair grafts - 1480-> 4440 hairs
4 Hair grafts - 331 -> 1324 hairs
Total: 2860 Grafts - 7593 Hairs
Transection rate in this case was 4 % including partial transections.
Average: 2.65 hairs per graft.
Bald class

Norwood stage 5V
The two areas of hair loss are larger than in stage 4. They are still separated, but the band of hair between them is narrower and sparser. There is significant hair loss on the top of the scalp (the vertex).
