About

I won't bore you to death with the details of my life..not really exciting anyway.  In short, may hair loss started at age 19 and into a hair system by age 25.  My first system was an ICL system which was sutured to my head--thus the scars. I had the system removed a few months later and switched to a weave then polyfuse for the duration.
Fast forward 18 years, several systems, several thousand dollars later. I finally garnered enough intestinal fortitude to shave my head (August 2006). I could literally write a book on the highs and lows of wearing a hair system. Some days it looked great--some days not.  While I could have paid for a transplant with all the money I spent on hair systems, ironically, HT's have only progressed (IMHO) in acheivments/excellence in the past few years making world class surgeons within reach of the average working class person (insert my picture here).

My Surgical Treatments to Date

4326 Grafts 9/20/06 and 1 Long Day
1's 2129 2's 2168 small amount of 3's and 4's used as 1's and 2's

My Non Surgical Treatments

Multiple Hair Systems..of course not all at once!

Bald Class

Bald class 6

Norwood stage 6

The balding areas at the temples join with the balding area at the vertex. The band of hair across the top of the head is gone or sparse.

Nah....Just enough to wear a hair system for almost twenty years.

None. I think the only thing I didn't try was rubbing a rabbit's foot on my head...ok, maybe once.
Started using Propecia in July 2006-too early to tell.

Couldn't be more happier with the Dr. and his staff.  Excellent from start to finish.
Results..too early to tell

I would definitely say a HT, but I would also definitely say..Glad I waited!  If had a HT when I got my first system (i think 1987-88) I would probably be doing corrective surgery of the plugs.

I will let you know...but slipping out from under the rug was my biggest accomplishment/hurdle to date.

You want advise from me?...The guy who sutured a wig to his head??...lol

15 Months Post OK..Found a before pic, similar situtation, in  pool w/ kids. Other than the kids being a year older and my smile a little broader, do you notice a change? This is approx: 15 months post-op. Not the best lighting conditions..and maybe showing off a bit..but what the hell..I finally have hair. lol. First picture was August 06, 1 month prior to my hair transplant. The second, was on Christmas Day 07.

Procedure 1

14 Month Update Hi all:Just hit the 14th month Post-OP mark. Looks like I have all the growing I am going to get from my first hair transplant. Figured I would throw together some pictures and mpegs into a video showing the progression over that past year and half—since I shed the rug. You need Windows media to view it… and it’s about 50 Meg, so hopefully you have high speed internet. Had some fun putting it together—it’s neat to look back at where we started from. The older crowd, like me, will remember the song. Of course I had to pick a song from a RI band…Been through the range of emotions over the past year…the usual; It’s not growing; it’s too thin; when is it going to grow; did all the grafts grow; the days when it looked thick, thin, etc..etc…etc… Overall –Completely satisfied, then some, with the results. Could use some grafts in the crown, left side is thinner than the right (biggest scars) and throughout the mid- scalp, and some in the hairline. Dr. True figures I have about 3500 + in reserves. Contemplating my next hair transplant—Doc wants me to wait and enjoy the new hair before making a decision—it’s been a few years…20 to be exact. Thanks everyone for being so supportive. This site is awesome! The Video

Procedure 1

1 Year It was actually 1 year on 9/21/07 (sorry a bit late posting) but these pictures were taken around that time. Still amazed at the outcome and that the hair is still growing and thickening. Guess I was a late bloomer. I'll keep posting pictures until it appears to be fully matured; I'm assuming in another month or two.  My left side, which always seemd to be about 1 to 2 months behind (in terms of growing) is filling in nicely.  I have a return trip to the Dr. in November for my 1 year check-up. Keep ya all posted.

Procedure 1

Month 11 Well..it has been 1 year since I shaved my head, ditched the rug and began the journey. Instead of posting a bunch of pictures I am putting the link to a post I made in the forum with side-by-side comparisons. A hair transplant is nothing to Clown around with....only kidding..that's an intro to the picture my kids took. I used to cringe when people took out cameras..now I can't wait to join in the fun. In addition to the hair transplant, I lost 35 pounds over the past year...hard to do in an Italian/Portuguese household. The hair is filling in nicely and I am getting a good response from the Propecia and Rogaine combination.

Procedure 1

10 Months Hair is starting to thicken..seeing less and less scalp each month.  Birds eye view on a sunny day still the sweet spot..however, I can finally pose for pictures without appearing as the "bald guy" in all the shots.

Procedure 1

9 Months These pictures were taken in Florida about a week after my 9 month mark. Can start to see the hair thickening considerably. Several factors at play, thickening months of hair transplant, Rogaine use- 2nd month and coming up to 1 year on Propecia. All the pictures are with gel and hair slicked back..found it easiest way to style for now. Still could use some thickening on the top..but hey..I'm a NW6 that had 1 hair transplant.

Procedure 1

8 months Thanks everyone for the comments and replys.  I started using Rogaine last month. Have seen some improvement in the crown area this past month. It sure helps when you can finally go outside and tan the top of the cranium.  I finally have enough hair to adhere some Dermatch to..just ordered...I'll post pic's if it works out.

6 Month Update While I start to see the growing hairs grow longer; I did not see a lot of new growth or much thickening happen over the last month. Hopefully, the spring showers will sprout some May follicles.

Procedure 1

5 Months Well, last month I officially ditched the hat.  More growing going on..hope it thickens up a tad more.  Looks better up close...but from a birds eye with lots of light, still very thin looking.  I guess thin is better than barren.

Procedure 1

3 Months They are really starting to pop now. It is really amazing to see hairs growing in places it hasn't for 20+ years. The crown is starting to fill in as well. Hopefully, things will thicken up over the course of the next several months.
