The Importance of Proper Hair Transplant Post-Operative Care

11/15/2017 1:00:46 AM

Today's state of the art follicular unit hair transplantation, when performed by a skilled and experienced hair restoration physician, can deliver natural and undetectable results. But, like any out-patient surgical procedure, hair transplant surgery presents the potential for side effects or complications. Thus, in order to ensure success and maximize hair growth after surgery, it's critical that patients follow their surgeon's post-operative care instructions.

While these instructions vary slightly from clinic to clinic, one universal post-op procedure to follow is proper washing of the donor and recipient sites. Typically, washing starts on the first day after surgery. During this first wash, you should avoid exposing the grafts to full water pressure. It's best to fill a cup with water and shampoo and pour it over the recipient area a couple of times. In the donor area, you must use your fingertips to remove dried blood around the wound.

Ultimately, as long as you follow your surgeon's post-operative care instructions you'll be just fine. If you're not sure about what to do or not to do, give your clinic a call.
