Esteemed hair restoration physician Dr. Sanusi Umar of Redondo Beach, California is recognized as one of the world's leading practitioners of body hair transplantation (BHT).
Dr. Umar performs state of the art follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplantation and specializes in repair cases.
Recently, the New York Times published an article about Dr. Umar's use of leg hair in the refinement of hairlines entitled, A New Approach to Treating Hair Loss in which Dr. Umar discusses his report on the subject in the The Archives of Dermatology. The Archives of Dermatology is a publication of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and is considered, together with the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the most respected dermatology journal in the world.
In this interview, Dr. Umar states that leg hair is able to produce a
finer and more natural appearance in the hairline than donor hair traditionally harvested
from the rear and sides of the head: “If
you look at a natural hairline, it’s very soft, like baby hair.” “The
back of the head is where you find the thickest hair on the head. If you
take that hair and use it in the hairline, it can end up looking harsh
and pluggy, because the hair is too thick.”
While it is important to note that not all prospective hair restoration patients are candidates for body
hair transplantation, hair loss suffering men and women for
whom traditional hair transplants are not an option are encouraged to
consult with Dr. Umar about this revolutionary technique.
