Calculating the Number of Grafts Needed for a Successful Hair Transplant

10/30/2017 8:08:25 PM

Hair transplant surgery can be a costly investment. Most hair restoration physicians charge by the graft and the average hair transplant seems to be around 2500 grafts. Given this fact, one of the first things prospective patients want to know is the minimum number of grafts required to create an aesthetically appealing result.

It's not always easy to arrive at a specific number. This is because graft numbers may vary a bit based on the physician's philosophy and technique as well as the individual patient's physiology and goals. However, one can get a very general estimate using the 1,000 graft per baldness level on the Norwood Scale. It's important to note that not everyone agrees with this formula.

Another way to estimate graft counts is with an interactive online graft calculator. Some physicians, like recommended hair transplant surgeon Dr. Tejinder Bhatti, offer estimation tools on their websites.

Ultimately, the best way to determine how many grafts you'll need is to consult with one or more skilled and experienced hair restoration physicians either in person or online.
